Counselling that understands Colwood

Colwood is a place where people build lives. Military families put down roots near CFB Esquimalt. Young families stretch into their first mortgage in Royal Bay or Hatley Park. Students and staff at Royal Roads University navigate the pressures of careers in motion. People choose Colwood for good reasons; the ocean, the trails, the space to breathe.

But building a life is hard work, and sometimes the weight of it catches up quietly.

Maybe it’s the partner who commutes through the Colwood Crawl every day and comes home with nothing left. Maybe it’s the posting that uprooted everything again. Maybe it’s the mortgage that looked manageable six months ago. Maybe it’s something older than all of that; something you’ve been carrying since long before you moved here.

Whatever brought you to this point, you don’t need to have it figured out before you reach out. You just need to know that someone nearby gets it.

Introspectus Counselling is right here on Wale Road, in the heart of Colwood’s growing community. I work with clients from Belmont Park, Triangle Mountain, Olympic View, Royal Bay, Colwood Corners, Lagoon Beach, and every neighbourhood in between.

Counselling for military families near CFB Esquimalt

CFB Esquimalt is Canada’s Pacific Coast naval base and the third-largest military installation in the country, with over 7,800 military and civilian personnel. Many of their families live right here in Colwood; in Belmont Park, along Ocean Boulevard, and throughout the surrounding neighbourhoods. My office is a 3 to 5 minute drive from Belmont Park military housing.

I served in the Canadian Armed Forces infantry. I understand military culture from the inside; the pressure to be strong, the way asking for help can feel like a career risk, and the disorientation of transitioning to civilian life. I’m not approaching this work from a textbook.

If you’re a veteran, active service member, or military family member looking for a therapist who understands the culture without needing it explained, I’d welcome the conversation.

We are currently in the process of becoming a registered Veterans Affairs Canada provider through Medavie Blue Cross. In the meantime, sessions may be covered through your existing extended health benefits, and counselling fees are tax-deductible as a medical expense.

Sean Lewis, Canadian Certified Counsellor, Colwood BC

About Sean Lewis

Sean Lewis CCC #11252849 MCP MDiv DPC
Canadian Certified Counsellor

My path to counselling wasn’t a straight line, and that’s the point.

I served in the Canadian Armed Forces infantry. I owned and operated a plumbing business. I spent a decade in pastoral ministry, including six years leading The Mustard Seed Street Church in Victoria, working alongside people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and crisis.

Those years taught me something that graduate school alone couldn’t; how to sit with people in hard places without flinching, without rushing to fix, and without pretending to have answers I don’t have.

I hold a Master of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Master of Divinity from Carey College. My primary therapeutic approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, family systems, and pastoral counselling.

I provide both secular, evidence-based therapy and, for those who want it, faith-informed pastoral counselling. You guide the framework; I bring the training and the experience.

My office is right here on Wale Road in Colwood. This is my community.

The Science of Healing. The Art of Care.

Questions about counselling in Colwood

Yes. My office is a 3-5 minute drive from Belmont Park military housing, and I served in the Canadian Armed Forces infantry. I understand military culture, operational stress, transition challenges, and the pressures military families carry. We are currently in the process of becoming a registered Veterans Affairs Canada provider through Medavie Blue Cross. In the meantime, sessions may be covered through your existing extended health benefits.

Suite 132 at 328 Wale Road, in the Coastal Offices building at Westridge Landing. We’re beside the Holiday Inn Express and Lee Valley Tools, near Colwood Corners. Free parking is available in the surface lot and underground parkade.

Most extended health plans cover sessions with a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). The best way to confirm is to call your insurer and ask: “Does my plan cover sessions with a Canadian Certified Counsellor?” Introspectus Counselling provides itemized receipts for reimbursement, and counselling fees are tax-deductible.

No. You can book directly online without a referral from a physician or anyone else.

Both provide effective, evidence-based therapy. A psychologist holds a doctoral degree and can perform formal psychological assessments and diagnoses. A counsellor with the CCC designation holds a Master’s degree and provides therapy using many of the same evidence-based approaches. Both the CCC (through CCPA) and the RCC (through BCACC) require a Master’s degree and supervised clinical hours, and both are recognized by most major insurers.

Yes. Virtual sessions are available across BC and Canada through a secure video platform. Many clients mix in-person and virtual sessions depending on their week. You book online the same way for both.

No, not by default. I provide secular, evidence-based therapy as the foundation of all my work. For clients who want to integrate questions of faith, spirituality, or meaning into our sessions, I also bring pastoral training and a decade of ministry experience. You guide the framework.

That’s completely fine. Your first session is a conversation, not a test. We’ll talk about what’s going on and what matters most to you. There’s no pressure to share everything at once, and no homework before you arrive. Many people who come in uncertain find it more practical and less clinical than they expected.
