Counselling that understands Langford

Twenty years ago, Langford was a quiet suburb people drove through on their way somewhere else. Today it’s the fastest-growing city in British Columbia, with a population that’s jumped over 60% in two census periods and is expected to double to 100,000 by 2050.

People move to Langford for all kinds of reasons. The schools. The trails. A partner stationed at CFB Esquimalt. A first home that was actually within reach. Growing up here and wanting to stay. Whatever brought you, there’s a good chance the pace of change around you has been harder than you expected.

Your neighbourhood has a new condo tower every few months. Highway 1 adds 30–50 minutes to your day. You’re working long hours in construction, trades, shift work, or a demanding career, and by the time you get home, there’s nothing left for the people who need you most. The gap between the life you’re building and the energy you have left to live it keeps getting wider.

Or maybe it’s not about Langford at all. Maybe it’s something you’ve been carrying for years, and the daily grind just finally wore through the last layer of “I’m fine.”

Whatever it is, you don’t need to have the words for it yet. That’s what the first session is for.

Introspectus Counselling is in Colwood, a 5–15 minute drive from most Langford neighbourhoods on local roads. You don’t touch Highway 1. I also offer virtual sessions if that works better for your schedule.

Counselling for people who work with their hands

Langford is being built, literally, by thousands of tradespeople. Over 5,000 new housing units went up between 2016 and 2021. In 2024, another 2,493 units were under construction; the most the city has ever seen. Carpenters, electricians, plumbers, heavy equipment operators, roofers, and labourers are building Langford’s future every day. Many of them live here too.

I owned and operated a plumbing business. I’ve lived the early starts, the physical toll, the pressure to work through pain because the job needs doing and nobody else is going to do it. I understand the way “just push through it” becomes the answer to everything, including the stuff that pushing through can’t fix.

If any of this sounds familiar, this is for you:

  • You’re exhausted but you can’t afford to slow down
  • You’re dealing with a physical injury and the mental weight that comes with it
  • You’re drinking more than you used to, or using something else to take the edge off
  • Your relationship is strained and you don’t have the energy to talk about it when you get home
  • You’ve been told to “talk to someone” but the idea of sitting in a therapist’s office feels like the opposite of who you are
  • You’re irritable, short-tempered, or withdrawn, and the people closest to you are starting to notice

Therapy doesn’t have to be soft or clinical. It can be direct, practical, and focused on what’s actually going on in your life right now.

Sean Lewis, Canadian Certified Counsellor, Colwood BC

About Sean Lewis

Sean Lewis CCC #11252849 MCP MDiv DPC
Canadian Certified Counsellor

My path to counselling wasn’t a straight line, and that’s the point.

I served in the Canadian Armed Forces infantry. I owned and operated a plumbing business. I spent a decade in pastoral ministry, including six years leading The Mustard Seed Street Church in Victoria, working alongside people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and crisis.

Those years taught me something that graduate school alone couldn’t; how to sit with people in hard places without flinching, without rushing to fix, and without pretending to have answers I don’t have.

I hold a Master of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Master of Divinity from Carey College. My primary therapeutic approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, family systems, and pastoral counselling.

I provide both secular, evidence-based therapy and, for those who want it, faith-informed pastoral counselling. You guide the framework; I bring the training and the experience.

My office is in Colwood, 10 minutes from Langford on local roads in Colwood. This is my community.

The Science of Healing. The Art of Care.

Questions about counselling near Langford

How far is your office from Langford?

Our Colwood office is a 5–15 minute drive from most Langford neighbourhoods using local roads like Goldstream Avenue and Langford Parkway. You avoid Highway 1 entirely. There’s free parking at the building.

Do you work with people in trades and construction?

Yes. I owned a plumbing business and understand trades culture firsthand; the physical demands, the pressure to push through pain, shift schedules that make traditional appointment times difficult, and the stigma around asking for help. Therapy here is direct and practical.

I’ve never been to therapy before. What should I expect?

A conversation, not a test. We’ll talk about what’s going on and what matters most to you. There’s no pressure to share everything in the first session, and no homework before you show up. Many people who come in skeptical find it more straightforward than they expected.

What if I don’t know what’s wrong; I just know something isn’t right?

That’s a perfectly good starting point. You don’t need a diagnosis, a clear problem statement, or the right words. “Something isn’t right” is enough to begin.

Do you offer early morning or evening sessions for shift workers?

Yes. My schedule often includes early morning and evening appointments to accommodate shift workers and trades professionals. Book online to see current availability.

Is counselling covered by my benefits?

Most extended health plans cover sessions with a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). The best way to confirm is to call your insurer and ask: “Does my plan cover a Canadian Certified Counsellor?” Introspectus Counselling provides itemized receipts for you to submit for reimbursement, and counselling fees are tax-deductible.

What’s the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist?

Both provide effective, evidence-based therapy. A psychologist holds a doctoral degree and can perform formal assessments and diagnoses. A counsellor with the CCC designation holds a Master’s degree and provides therapy using many of the same evidence-based approaches. Both require supervised clinical hours, and both are recognized by most major insurers in BC.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly online without a referral from a doctor or anyone else.

Can I do therapy online instead of coming to the office?

Yes. Virtual sessions are available across BC and Canada through a secure video platform. Some clients prefer this for scheduling flexibility, privacy, or to skip the drive. You book online the same way for both.

Is counselling at Introspectus faith-based?

No, not by default. I provide secular, evidence-based therapy as the foundation of all my work. For clients who want to bring questions of faith, spirituality, or meaning into our sessions, I also bring pastoral training and a decade of ministry experience. You guide the framework.

Do you also work with military families?

Yes. I served in the Canadian Armed Forces infantry and our Colwood office is minutes from CFB Esquimalt. I work with active service members, veterans, and military families across the West Shore.

Ready to take the first step?

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you book. You don’t need the right words or a clear explanation. You just need to show up.

Book a session online, or start with a free 15-minute consultation if you’d like to ask questions first. In person at our Colwood office (10 minutes from Langford), or virtually from wherever you are.
