Free alcohol use check (AUDIT-C)
A quick, private check based on the AUDIT-C. Free, scored on your device, and yours to keep.

What this check measures
The AUDIT-C asks three questions about drinking: how often, how much on a typical day, and how often six or more in one sitting. Your answers add up to a score from 0 to 12. It is the short consumption version of the AUDIT, the World Health Organization screening questionnaire.
How the scoring works
Each answer is worth 0 to 4 points. Research reads the total against a threshold: 4 or more for men, or 3 or more for women, counts as a positive screen. That means the pattern deserves a closer look, nothing more. These ranges are a common way to read the result:
| Score | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| 0-2 | Below both screening thresholds |
| 3-3 | At the threshold used for women, below the one used for men |
| 4-12 | At or above both screening thresholds |
What it cannot tell you
A score cannot diagnose an alcohol use disorder, and it cannot see the season of life behind the number. It is a prompt for reflection and, if the total sits at or above the threshold, a good reason for a conversation with your doctor or a counsellor.
You have wondered whether you are drinking more than you should. This answers it with a researched threshold instead of a guess. It is a free alcohol use check built on the AUDIT-C, the three consumption questions of the World Health Organization AUDIT. About 30 seconds, scored privately in your browser. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis, and there are no lectures here.
Questions people ask
Am I drinking too much?
This check gives you a researched threshold instead of a guess. If your score lands at or above it, that is not a verdict; it is a sign the pattern deserves a closer look with someone qualified. If the number is low but drinking still worries you, trust the worry over the number.
Is this a diagnosis of a drinking problem?
No. The AUDIT-C is a screening tool that measures consumption patterns; it does not diagnose. A positive screen is a good reason to talk with a professional, and the full 10-question AUDIT is the usual next step.
What counts as a standard drink?
In Canada, a standard drink is roughly a bottle of beer at 5 percent, a 142 ml glass of wine at 12 percent, or a 43 ml shot of spirits. If your usual pour is bigger, count it as more than one drink.
Who sees my answers?
No one. The check is scored entirely in your browser, and nothing you answer is sent to us or stored anywhere. The optional threshold question is never stored either.
What should I do with my score?
Save the page first, because nothing is stored here. If your score is at or above the threshold, or drinking has been on your mind either way, bring it to your doctor or a counsellor; a free consultation is an easy place to start.
